ACCESSIBILITY Commitment

Film Festival Alliance and Art House Convergence, the organizers of the Independent Film Exhibition Conference, are committed to accessibility as a core value of the conference. In practice, this looks like transparency, clear and timely communication of important information, and a dedicated resource for accommodation requests.

WHAT ACCOMMODATIONS ARE READILY AVAILABLE?

Quiet Room: The conference will offer a quiet, low-sensory room available to attendees each afternoon at the Chicago Cultural Center.

CART: CART will be made available for several sessions and will be indicated on the web version of the program guide as it is finalized. It will also be announced via email and Slack to attendees.

how do i request accommodations?

To request accommodations, please reach out to us via email or phone. You will also have an opportunity to request accommodations in your Attendee Form and at registration.

Please reach out as early as you can so we can best work with you on an accommodations plan. We ask for a minimum of two weeks’ notice for ASL and additional CART requirements. We may not be able to meet all needs, but we seek to work with you to find the best approach.

The FFA Executive Director, Barbara Twist, will be overseeing accessibility plans.

The IND/EX conference will seek feedback from attendees using the Film Event Accessibility Scorecard, a collaborative initiative of the Film Event Accessibility Working Group (FEAW), FWD-Doc, FFA, and 1IN4.

Chicago Cultural Center

Mobility Access

The wheelchair accessible entrance, located street level at Garland Court and Randolph Street, leads to the westernmost Randolph Square entry doors which have power assisted opening.

All restrooms and elevators are in the Chicago Cultural Center are wheelchair accessible.

  • Wheelchairs for use in the Chicago Cultural Center are available upon request on a first come, first served basis. Upon arrival, please ask the security officer on duty in the lobby for assistance. The wheelchairs may be used in the building and returned to the security desk when finished. There is not staff available to push the chairs.

  • Wheelchair accessible seats and seats accessible without stairs are available in the back rows of the Claudia Cassidy Theater.

  • An accessibility lift and assisted seating are available in the Claudia Cassidy Theater.

  • An elevator connected to the underground Pedway is located in the Randolph Street Lobby. An elevator located outside the building on the southwest corner of Michigan Avenue and Randolph Street also connects to the underground Pedway providing access to the Chicago Cultural Center, the Metra Train Station and the Grant Park Underground Garage. 

D/deaf or hard-of-hearing Accessibility

  • Induction Loop
    If you use a hearing aid or cochlear implant that has a T-Coil, feel free to turn it on for any performance, tour, or lecture in Claudia Cassidy Hall!

Gene Siskel Film Center

BUILDING ACCESSIBILITY

The Film Center is fully ADA accessible. 

Both of our theaters are equipped with hearing loops. Switch your hearing device to T-Coil program to use, or request a headset and transmitter from the box office.

We strive to make our theater convenient for guests who use wheelchairs or mobility devices and their companions. Spaces have been designated to accommodate wheelchairs or mobility devices in each auditorium, providing unrestricted sightlines. Theater 1 features five spaces, and Theater 2 features four spaces. Up to four companion seats, if needed, have been set aside next to each wheelchair-accessible area. If contiguous seats are not available, companions will be seated as close as possible to the accessible location. If you need assistance finding seating at a screening, please visit our staff at the theater entry.

We ask that all patrons respect the needs of our patrons who use wheelchairs and their companions, with the understanding that they may be asked to relocate if sitting in one of the designated companion seats. 

GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOM

An accessible gender neutral restroom is available on the third floor of the Gene Siskel Film Center. Please see a Film Center staff member for assistance.

MUSIC BOX THEATRE

BUILDING ACCESSIBILITY

All entrances and exits are wheelchair accessible and any floor is flat or slightly sloped. The main auditorium has room for up to five wheelchairs. All bathrooms have handicap accessible stalls.

GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOM

The two restrooms in the Music Box lounge are solo occupant and non-gendered.
